St. Rita Earns Victory vs. St. Laurence in Chicago Catholic League Action!

The varsity basketball team won a thriller Friday night in front of a raucous home crowd over Catholic League rival St. Laurence 76-75 in double overtime. St. Rita (6-8, 2-2) trailed the entire night before finally taking control in the second overtime.

With the Mustangs trailing St. Laurence 48-40 heading into the fourth quarter Friday night, it looked as if St. Rita would drop to (1-3) in the Catholic League, which would make winning their fifth consecutive Catholic League title very difficult. The Mustangs, though, came alive in the final quarter and sent the game into overtime on a game-tying three-pointer by junior Paul Kingsley (10 points) with 30 seconds to play.

In the first overtime period, senior Chris Williams (career high 30 points) hit a running ten-footer at the buzzer to send the game to a second overtime. In double overtime the Mustangs took control early before Williams hit four straight free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory for St. Rita.

Junior Te’Mon Green contributed a double-double (11 points, 13 rebounds) and senior Demauris Dixon added 10 points for the Mustangs.
