Straight ‘A’ St. Rita of Cascia High School Students Receive Heeney Award

Twice a year, since 1967, the St. Rita of Cascia High School Fathers’ Club has awarded St. Rita students who earn straight A’s the previous semester with the Joseph C. Heeney Award. This year marks the 42nd Anniversary of the Heeney Award, which was established in the memory of Joseph Heeney, who was president of the Fathers’ Club for the 1967-68 academic year, during which he passed away suddenly in June, 1967.
St. Rita of Cascia High School recently presented 36 students with Heeney Awards for receiving straight A’s for the First Semester 200-2010. The awarded students were joined by Principal Sally Deenihan (1st row left), Fr. Philip Cook, O.S.A. (2nd row left), Assistant Principal Joe Partacz (1st row right), and Assistant Principal Wes Benak (2nd row right).
Joseph’s son Michael Heeney, of Heeney-Laughlin Funeral Directors in Evergreen Park, was present at a quarterly Family Mass and breakfast on January 17, 2010 to present the award and a gift of $50 from the St. Rita of Cascia High School Fathers’ Club.
