For Immediate Release February 1, 2010
St. Rita of Cascia High School bestows the “Mustang of the Month” award every month during the academic year to notable students from each class. Faculty and staff nominate students based on the student’s overall achievements and involvement at the school. The award winners are then selected from those nominated by an award committee. The following students were selected the February 2010 Mustangs of the Month:

St. Rita of Cascia High School announces the Mustangs of the Month for February 2010. From left to right: Freshman Michael Lorimer (Queen of Martyrs), Sophomore Nick Dachota (St. John Fisher), Junior Conor LePretre (St. Cajetan), and Senior Marty Kordas (St. Cajetan).
Freshman Michael Lorimer (Queen of Martyrs): During his freshman year at St. Rita Michael has been involved in swimming, cross country, water polo, the school choir, The Ritan newspaper, the stock club, math team and theatre group. Michael is also involved outside of St. Rita, where he volunteers at “Hidden Talents” at Queen of Martyrs and in the Mother McAuley Theatre Program. Michael exemplifies the core values of truth, unity, and love.
Michael said, “It is truly an honor to receive such an award. I have enjoyed every single second I’ve had at St. Rita and I cannot wait to see what these next three and a half years will bring.”
Sophomore Nick Dachota (St. John Fisher): Nick continues to help out at St. John Fisher by assisting at carnivals and working the score table for the basketball team. He also ushers at Mass. Nick has kept busy while at St. Rita in the Knights of Augustine as a lector and hospitality minister for the all-school Masses. Nick also ran track and played football for St. Rita during his freshman and sophomore years, and hopes to continue this year.
Nick was quoted as saying, “This past year has gone by so fast, I hope my next two years go by a little slower so I can enjoy them even more. So many great things have happened this year for me, and I cannot wait to see what the next two years have in store for me.”
Junior Conor LePretre (St. Cajetan): Conor continues to be involved at St. Cajetan Parish as a Eucharistic Minister. During his time here at St. Rita, Conor has been continuously involved in cross country, water polo, swimming, and the Knights of Augustine. Conor is also an active junior member of the National Honor Society.
Conor said, “St. Rita has been great to me and I’m glad I decided to come here.”
Senior Marty Kordas (St. Cajetan): According to his teachers, Marty is a positive Ritaman who is very active around St. Rita, excelling in academics and athletics. While at St. Rita Marty has been very involved in athletics including freshman football, and basketball all four years. Marty has been in the Knights of Augustine and SADD for all four years, as well. Marty was on Kairos 94 and returned as a leader on Kairos 95. He also volunteers at the Special Olympics every year.
Marty says about his time at St. Rita, “St. Rita has helped me mature into a young man these past three and a half years. I have to give credit to all my friends, coaches, and teachers at St. Rita who has pushed me to be stronger and have been a positive influence. It is hard to face the fact that we have less than one semester left, so I hope these next few months are great, if not better, than the past three and a half years here.”
