Three St. Rita of Cascia High School Seniors Sign to College Soccer

Three senior members of St. Rita of Cascia High School’s Varsity Soccer team signed letters of intent on Wednesday, March 3rd for Calumet of St. Joseph College in Whiting, Indiana to play soccer for the Crimson Wave.

Three senior members of St. Rita of Cascia High School’s Varsity Soccer team signed letters of intent on Wednesday, March 3rd for Calumet of St. Joseph College in Whiting, Indiana to play soccer for the Crimson Wave. The three Ritamen were Captains Matthew Carlson (Wilkins Junior High), Pedro Gomez (Stevenson), and Goalkeeper Jorge Barba (Queen of the Universe). Carlson and Barba have been members of the St. Rita’s Soccer team all four years, while Gomez joined the team in his sophomore year. At Calumet of St. Joesph College Carlson and Gomez are planning to major in Business while Barba is planning on majoring in Communications.

The young men were joined for the signing by their parents and relatives, along with St. Rita Director of Soccer Operations Mike Carlson, who is also Matthew’s father, President Fr. Tom McCarthy, O.S.A. ’83, Athletic Director Mike Zunica, and Calumet of St. Joseph College Director of Athletics and Head Men's Soccer Coach  Peter Haze Haring.

Calumet of St. Joseph College is an N.A.I.A. member school in the C.C.A.C. (Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference).
