On Friday, April 17, 2015 St. Rita High School held its 79th Annual Alumni Banquet and Class Reunion. The event was a major success as over 400 Ritamen, their families, and supporters of our school and its Augustinian Mission filled our gymnasium, hallways, chapel, and every other nook and cranny of our school.
We celebrated all Ritamen and welcomed back alumni from the Class of 1942 to recent graduates–and everywhere in between.
Our special anniversary classes, 1955 (60th reunion), 1965 (50th reunion), 1975 (40th reunion), 1985 (30th reunion) 1990 (25th reunion), and 2005 (10th reunion) were honored and celebrated as each class got together to talk about their memories of high school and all the wonderful events that took place in the hallways at St. Rita High School.
The event began with a cocktail hour at 6:30, which allowed the families of our award winners and honorees to enjoy a private reception in our school’s McCarthy Student Center and the Class of 1965 and the 1975 Hockey Kennedy Cup Champions to get together in our school’s special chapel foyer area and main foyer.
After thumbing through the 1965 yearbook and swapping stories, the Class of 1965 gathered in the Chapel for a class picture. We then ushered members of the Class of 1990 and got their picture taken as well. Other anniversary classes had their groups photographed as well, later in the night.
At 7:30, it was time to eat! After seating all guests and their families, the Class of ’65 was welcomed into the gymnasium by our student Jazz Band and seated front-and-center. While a fabulous dinner from Country House Restaurant was being served, everyone watched a 20-minute video presentation made by St. Rita graduate and 2002 alumnus, Javier Solorio and narrated by St. Rita Faculty member, baseball coach, football coach and 1993 alumnus, John Nee.
The video presentation featured pictures and biographies of all St. Rita Alumni Banquet Award Winners and Honorees. Along Mr. Nee and Mr. Solorio captured the highlights and key moments of each Ritaman with pictures from their days as St. Rita students, their old pictures with family and friends, and their current pictures and activities. The video was a major highlight of the evening for many of our guests.
After the video and world-class dinner, everyone hit the bar and continued to enjoy one another’s company and soak in the fun of the night. The gymnasium transformed into a sea of Ritamen young and old getting reacquainted and showcasing the tight-knit community that is St. Rita alumni.
Thanks to all Ritamen who attended the banquet for making the night truly special. Thanks for the help of all St. Rita High School Staff and the Advancement Office, as well as Country House Restaurant, Classic Party Rentals, PSAV Audio/Visual, Don Cranley Awards, Overt Press Inc., and many others who contributed to the success of the night.
Up next, mark your calendars for Friday, July 24, for our 40th Annual Scholarship Golf Outing to be held at Gleneagles Country Club in Lemont, IL. All St. Rita alumni are welcome for 18 holes, fun on the course, raffle and door prizes, excellent food and drinks packages, and much, much more!
