Mikey Zunica ’12, who walked on the University of Kansas (KU) football team in January 2013 after spending a semester at Columbia University and earned a scholarship from then head coach Charlie Weiss in January 2014, has been named honorable mention All-Big 12 fullback as voted on by the league’s ten coaches.
Zunica, one of only four Kansas players to be recognized for All-Big 12 honors, did not record any offensive statistics, but was a standout blocker in both the passing and run game for KU. The Palos Park, Illinois (St. Alexander) native moved to the offensive side of the ball late in fall camp from his linebacker position. Zunica also played an instrumental role on special teams for Kansas.
Zunica was a two-year starter at fullback for St. Rita (2010-2011) leading the Mustangs to back-to-back 7A state semi-final appearances and a Chicago Catholic League Blue championship in his senior year.
