The St. Rita soccer season came to an end on Wednesday, October 19 as the “Kicking” Mustangs dropped a regional semi-final match at St. Laurence; but on Thursday, October 20 they were awarded an honor even bigger than any regional win could provide.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America named the 2016 St. Rita Soccer Team to their All-American Academic Team. St. Rita was one of only 300 schools nationwide and one of only five in Illinois, including the only private school, to be named to the All-American Team. The Mustangs finished with the fifth highest GPA in the entire country with a cumulative 4.21 GPA on a 4.00 scale.

Coach Tim McCarthy ’85 and Bob Kellam’s ’92 team also earned some individual awards this past week. Jack Wojcicki and David Ruano were named first-team All-Catholic League and Brian Murphy was named IHSSCA All-Sectional Honorable Mention.

The “Kicking” Mustangs also unveiled their new locker room facility, located on the east side of Pat Cronin Field, for their senior night 4-1 victory over Marian Catholic on October 11th.
