On Friday, April 11, St. Rita High School held its 78th Annual Alumni Banquet and Class Reunion. The event was a major success as nearly 500 Ritamen, their families, and supporters of our school and its Augustinian Mission filled our gymnasium, hallways, chapel, and every other nook and cranny of our school. We celebrated all Ritamen and welcomed back alumni ranging from the Class of 1944, to the Class of 2009–and everywhere in between.
Our special anniversary classes, 1954 (60th reunion), 1964 (50th reunion), 1974 (40th reunion), 1984 (30th reunion) 1989 (25th reunion), and 2004 (10th reunion) were honored and celebrated as each class got together to talk about their memories of high school and all the wonderful events that took place in the hallways at St. Rita High School.
The event began with a cocktail hour at 6:30, which allowed the families of our Award Winners and Honorees to enjoy a private reception in our school’s brand-new McCarthy Student Center and the Class of 1964 and the 1963 National Championship Football team to get together in our school’s special Chapel Foyer area.
After thumbing through the 1964 yearbook and swapping stories about this and that, the Class of 1964 gathered in the Chapel for a class picture. We then ushered members of the Class of 1989 and got their picture taken as well. Other anniversary classes had their groups photographed as well, later in the night.
At 7:30, it was time to eat! After seating all guests and their families, the Class of ’64 was welcomed into the gymnasium by our student Jazz Band and seated front-and-center. While a fabulous dinner from Country House Restaurant was being served, everyone watched a 20-minute video presentation made by St. Rita graduate and 2002 alumnus, Javier Solorio.
The exceptional video featured pictures and biographies of all St. Rita Alumni Banquet Award Winners and Honorees. Along with John Nee ’93, Mr. Solorio captured the highlights and key moments of each Ritaman with pictures from their days as St. Rita students, their old pictures with family and friends, and their current pictures and activities. The video was a major highlight of the evening for many of our guests and is available for viewing on our web site.
After the video and world-class dinner, everyone hit the bar and continued to enjoy one another’s company and soak in the fun of the night. The gymnasium transformed into a sea of Ritamen young and old getting re-acquainted and showcasing the tight-knit community that is St. Rita alumni.
Everyone had a smile on their face and felt back home at St. Rita.
When the event ended, the smiles remained on the faces as our guests went their separate ways–some back to their homes in various cities or states, some back down Western Avenue to make the night continue at a local restaurant or pub.
Thanks to all Ritamen who attended the banquet for making the night truly special. Thanks for the help of all St. Rita High School Staff and the Advancement Office, as well as Country House Restaurant, Classic Party Rentals, PSAV Audio/Visual, Don Cranley Awards, Overt Press Inc., and many others who contributed to the success of the night.
Up next, mark your calendars for Friday, July 25, for our 39th Annual Scholarship Golf Outing to be held at Gleneagles Country Club in Lemont, IL. All St. Rita alumni are welcome for 18 holes, fun on the course, raffle and door prizes, excellent food and drinks packages, and much, much more!
St. Rita High School Alumni are like none other…Go Mustangs!
