On Saturday, June 29, the St. Rita Young Alumni Club held its second annual softball tournament for St. Rita alumni and friends on three fields on the beautiful St. Rita campus.  The event was a major success and luckily the rains didn’t fall to ruin everyone’s good time.

13 teams in total participated, with over 130 players taking the fields.  The tournament had 11 teams in 2012.  The St. Rita alumni ranged from members of the class of 1998 to members of the class of 2012 and everywhere in between.  Each team was guaranteed two games minimum before the champions of each pool advanced to the semi-finals.  The semi-finals and finals were held on the St. Rita varsity baseball field with working scoreboard and music.

Tom O’Malley (Class of 2004) and his team were crowned the champions of the tournament, going undefeated on the day.

A special thanks goes out to the St. Rita Father’s Club for being present and providing hot dogs, hamburgers, Italian sausages and plenty of cold drinks for all members of the teams.

And thanks to the following alumni for getting teams into the tournament and acting as team captains:  Joe Dunaj ’03, Mike Cashman ’99, Paul Standring ’03, Martin Hopkins ’09, Brendan Garrett ’10, Pat Shanahan ’07, Mike Cannon ’05, Jack Leiser ’11, Tom O’Malley ’04, Matt Eastman ’02, Liam Hopkins ’11 and others.

The SR Young Alumni Club will be excited to put on their 3rd annual softball tournament next June!
