The St. Rita Mustangs basketball season came to a dramatic end last week when it lost on a buzzer beater to DuSable. However, the Mustangs had a tremendous season, one of the best in school history, and they are being rewarded for it.
Four members of the team, Scott Kingsley (Sr., St. Josaphat) Vic Law (Jr., IJP), Charles Matthews (So., Kenwood Academy), and Dominique Matthews (Jr., Vanderpoel) were all named to the Chicago Catholic League All-Conference team. "All four of these players are very deserving of the award," Head Coach Gary DeCesare stated. "Each of them played a significant role for us this year and guided us to a Catholic League Championship. The entire program is very proud of them."
Not to be outdone, Gary DeCesare was named the Chicago Catholic League Coach of the Year. This is the first time Coach DeCesare has earned this honor and it comes on the heels of a championship season in which his Mustangs finished 19-8 overall.
The entire St. Rita community congratulates these four student-athletes and Coach DeCesare for their accomplishments on the court and for representing the school so well.
