This college football bowl season was a special one for the St. Rita High School athletic department as eight of its former Mustang football players participated in a post-season bowl game. The eight former Mustangs had success while members of their St. Rita teams, and now are key members of their respective university teams. Four student-athletes, Matt Conrath '07, Darius Fleming '08, Kevin Galeher '08, and Bruce Gaston '10 were starters on their teams. Six players (Conrath, Fleming, Galeher, Steven Flaherty '08, Martin Hopkins '09, and Jerry Ponio '09) were on St. Rita's 2006 Class 7A State Championship team.
In addition, seven St. Rita alums were members of the 2011 NAIA National Champion St. Xavier Cougars football team. Tim Beyer '09, Dave Marciano '09, Matt Munizzi '09, Kevin Berrigan '10, Tim Ladd '10, Tom Hitz '11, and Jimmy Johnson '11 keyed the Cougars' championship run.
As impressive as this group of young Ritamen has been on the athletic fields, their achievements off the fields, in the classrooms and communities, is even more impressive. They are fantastic examples of great St. Rita Men.
We hope to see some of them join the ranks of current St. Rita alumni in the NFL, where current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mike Kafka '05 and Detroit Lions punter Ryan Donahue '06 currently are enjoying success.
Congrats to all of you and keep making us proud!
