An Invitation from Fr. Tom McCarthy, O.S.A '83

Eleven Augustinian Novices to Profess First Vows on Sunday, July 31 at the St. Rita Shrine Chapel

Dear St. Rita Family:

I hope your summer is going very well.

I get many questions about what I am doing as Vocation Director for the Augustinians. I have the great honor of working with young men who are considering a vocation as a priest or brother in the Order of St. Augustine.

This Sunday, July 31, 2016, at an 11:00 a.m. Mass in the St. Rita Shrine Chapel, we will be having an event that I want to invite you to attend. It is the First Profession of Vows for our 11 novices. We have not had this number of novices in over 40 years. It is an unbelieveable ceremony and I invite you to attend.

Four of the novices have St. Rita or South Side connections:

  • Bobby Carroll - St. John Fisher Parish and St. Rita Class of 2011

  • Sam Joutras - Central Junior High (Evergreen Park), Most Holy Redeemer Parish and Providence Catholic High School Class of 2010

  • Dan Madden - Augustinian Volunteer at St. Rita for the 2013-14 academic year

  • Joe Roccosalva - St. Cajetan Parish and Marian Catholic High School Class of 2008

You do not need to RSVP if you just come for the Mass, but I do need you to RSVP if you would like to stay for lunch. Simply email Mrs. Margie Hopkins at

Hope to see you Sunday! Please keep praying for vocations and encouraging all our young people to be open to God's call in their lives.

God bless and may St. Rita powerfully intercede for us!
