St. Rita Basketball Continues Strong Play on the Court

Jordan Matthews isn’t looking too far ahead.

The St. Rita High School junior knows the Mustangs have a long way to go, but the early returns are certainly positive.

He sorely remembers the disappointment of a 14-18 record last season and wants to avoid a repeat.

With Matthews’ strong play and that of RaShaad Williams and Joel Watts in the backcourt in a Chicago Catholic League-South matchup on Dec. 2, host St. Rita used a huge second-half effort to earn a 78-54 victory over Leo.

“Last year was tough, but we’re more together this year,” Matthews said. “We’re playing well with a good flow. We’re not getting too happy, though. We have a lot to prove because of the season we had last year.”
