As a baseball coach, Mike Zunica hasn't been brought to tears too often.
In fact, I don't believe I've witnessed Zunica shed a tear during his 20-year career at St. Rita. Not even after the Mustangs lost in the Class 4A state championship game in 2009, 2010 and 2014.
He was sad each time, nearly heartbroken, mostly for his players and St. Rita. Maybe in his alone time he allowed a few tears to fall, but in postgame media sessions, Zunica always was composed.
The thought of coaching his son Mateo for the final time in a St. Rita uniform proved too emotional.
Zunica has prioritized family above everything. Even above baseball, if you can believe it...
