New Orleans - On Monday, June 29 2015, the National Federation of State High School Associations’ (NFHS) National High School Heart of the Arts Award winner Ethan Gray '15 and the St. Rita High School Jazz Band performed at the NFHS National Convention in New Orleans.
Later in the evening, Ethan was formally presented with the NFHS' Heart of the Arts Award.
The NFHS' National High School Heart of the Arts Award, now in its second-year, recognizes a student who exemplifies the ideals of the positive heart of the arts that represent the core mission of education-based activities. The NFHS reaches more than 19,000 schools and over 11 million participants in high school activities.
While Ethan did not read sheet music when he entered St. Rita as a freshman, he now excels in playing 11 musical instruments—while focusing on saxophone, clarinet and guitar—playing in the pep, jazz and marching bands. Ethan is also involved in the Spanish Club, the Paintball Club, the Theatre Program; and he is an accomplished visual artist, lending his talents to yearbook covers and collaborating with professional comic book artists.
Ethan said about his St. Rita High School experience, "St. Rita is a second home to me. With all my activities, I'm here so much it really seems like home. I truly feel that the encouraging environment at St. Rita has helped me develop my talents. I don't think I'd be the person I am today if I hadn't chosen to attend to St. Rita High School and take advantage of the opportunities here."
Congratulations to Ethan Gray, from the St. Rita Class of 2015, on earning this prestigious national award!
