St. Rita Soccer Earns National Recognition!

Written By: John Nee '93

The St. Rita soccer season came to an end on Wednesday, October 19 as the “Kicking” Mustangs dropped a regional semi-final match at St. Laurence; but on Thursday, October 20 they were awarded an honor even bigger than any regional win could provide.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America named the 2016 St. Rita Soccer Team to their All-American Academic Team. St. Rita was one of only 300 schools nationwide and one of only five in Illinois, including the only private school, to be named to the All-American Team. The Mustangs finished with the fifth highest GPA in the entire country with a cumulative 4.21 GPA on a 4.00 scale.

Coach Tim McCarthy ’85 and Bob Kellam’s ’92 team also earned some individual awards this past week. Jack Wojcicki and David Ruano were named first-team All-Catholic League and Brian Murphy was named IHSSCA All-Sectional Honorable Mention.

The “Kicking” Mustangs also unveiled their new locker room facility, located on the east side of Pat Cronin Field, for their senior night 4-1 victory over Marian Catholic on October 11th.

St. Rita Summer Camps Continue to Rise in Popularity

Week Two of the official St. Rita High School Summer Camp season is off to a great start. The 37-Acre Campus is filled with summer activity.

St. Rita Soccer Camp

Soccer Camp for grammar school students and incoming freshman, led by Coaches Tim McCarthy '85 and Bob Kellam '92, is building on the program's recent momentum--including ongoing construction of a new locker room. Many young men are honing their soccer skills on Cronin Field at Doyle Stadium each morning.

St. Rita Quarterback Camp

As soon as Soccer Camp concludes each day, Head Football Coach Todd Kuska '90 and several talented young quarterbacks take to Doyle Stadium's state-of-the-art turf playing surface as Kuska helps them sharpen their QB aptitudes.

St. Rita Basketball Camp

In the evenings, Head Basketball Coach Gary DeCesare and his staff gather athletes from grades five through eight on St. Rita Gymnasium's hardwood for drills to help them improve their dribbling, shooting, passing and defensive techniques.

Also this week, Coach Kuska and his coaching staff welcome incoming freshmen at Doyle Stadium each evening for Football Camp.

Several campers, of more than 150 grammar school students of all ages with sought-after spots in Coach Jay Standring's (HON) ever-popular Recreation Camp, are still talking about last week's special, behind-the-scenes tour of Notre Dame, including the stadium, locker room, ice rink, Basilica and bookstore. This week, the campers are headed to Haunted Trails Family Amusement Park in Burbank for some off-campus fun.

St. Rita Cheerleaders

In more off-campus summer action, the St. Rita Cheerleaders, led by Coaches Kim Williams and Missy Smialek, are attending Cheer Camp in Aurora. Many Cheerleaders meet on campus each morning before joining the rest of the squad at camp.

Registration is still open for many St. Rita Summer Camps!
