St. Rita Spanish Teachers Lead Students on Field Trips

St. Rita students work hard learning in the classroom; they also understand that getting out of the classroom helps them learn and gain a better understanding of the subject they are studying. Recently St. Rita's spanish students were able to learn more on two field trips.

On Monday, Dec 5 the Spanish 1H class, led by Ms. Socorro Yanez, traveled to Pilsen to visit the National Museum of Mexican Art. Before their arrival to the museum they stopped at the Churro Factory where some fresh warm churros and hot chocolate was waiting for them.  At the museum students received a guided tour where they were able to see different Altares and Ofrendas for El Dia de los Muertos from different regions of Mexico. They were also able to visit the museums permanent collection to learn more about culture, traditions and the history of Mexico.

Also on Monday, Dec 5 Mrs. Colleen Earley and Mrs. Mary Misiora took Spanish 4 and Spanish AP classes to the Art Institute in downtown Chicago where they visited two docent-led tours through the art of Spain and art of the Americas. Students learned about the different styles of Spanish art from Picasso, Goya, Dali and el Greco. In addition, students visited some of the art pieces from the Americas--specifically drinking vessels from the Incas and coronation stone from the Aztecs. These tours brought history and ancient civilizations back to life. Each student is writing a reflection on their experience at both exhibits.
