St. Rita Student-Athlete Trevor Scianna (St. Hubert - Hoffman Estates) has been named the Chicago Blackhawks' BMO Harris Player of the Month. Trevor is a goalie for the varsity St. Rita Skating Mustangs. The award is presented once a month during a Blackhawks' home game at the United Center during their hockey season.
The criteria for the Chicago Blackhawks' BMO Player of the Month Award is based upon hockey accomplishments, volunteer activities within the nominee's community, demonstrated passion, dedication and spirit through commitment to community as well as academic accomplishments and involvement with the player's school.
Not only is Trevor an important part of the St. Rita Varsity Mustangs Hockey team (currently competing in the State Playoffs and the Kennedy Cup Semi-Finals), he is also a five-time Heeney Award-winning, straight-A student and a St. Rita Band and Drumline captain. Trevor is also involved in the Knights of Augustine, is a Eucharistic Minister and dedicated much of his time last summer to helping build houses on a St. Rita-sponsored Habitat for Humanity service trip to North Carolina. Trevor is currently working on being inducted into the National Honor Society in his senior year and looking forward to an upcoming Augustinian Youth Encounter trip to Prague in July 2016.
Trevor was nominated by his uncle, Eric Krywanio, a 1992 St. Rita Alumus and member of the 1992 Kennedy Cup Championship team.
Trevor, the top student in St. Rita's junior class, will receive his award prior to Thursday's Blackhawk's game against the Predators. The presentation will be aired between the first and second periods on Thursday, February 25.
Trevor expects to present St. Rita High School with a replica award to be displayed at school and his interview will also be available on the Blackhawk's website.
