Henry Ryan ‘19

Chick Evans Scholarship

Congratulations to Henry Ryan ‘19 (Chicago - Keller Elementary School, St. Cajetan Parish) who will be attending Indiana University on the Chick Evans Scholarship.

At St. Rita, Henry is involved in the Advice Beyond the Classroom (ABC) Program, Big Brothers, the National Honor Society, Stock Club and the Latin Club. Henry also played Hockey and is currently a member of St. Rita’s Varsity Lacrosse Team. In addition to caddying, Henry is an Eagle Scout and volunteers for Hockey on Your Block, a program that provides instruction, equipment and ice time to Chicago children who otherwise would not be able to afford to play the game of hockey.

Henry would like to major in Finance and/or Economics at Indiana. He is not entirely sure what he would like to do after college but thinks he would possibly like to work in consulting. One thing he is looking forward to at Indiana University is their study abroad program and the new experiences that college will bring.

Kyle Gustafson ‘19

Augustinian High School Scholarship

Congratulations to Kyle Gustafson ‘19 (Darien, IL, Lakeview Junior High School, Christ the Servant Catholic Church) who recently received the Augustinian Scholarship at Villanova University. He also wrote for the school’s satirical newspaper, The Ritan and was a part of the School Culture Committee and Big Brothers. During his sophomore year, Kyle participated in the foreign exchange program which enabled him to visit Argentina as well as host a student from St. Rita’s Augustinian brother school in Buenos Aires, Saint Martin de Tours.

Kyle was also an assistant captain on the Varsity hockey team, a two-time Catholic League All-Star and was recently named the 2019 Catholic League MVP.

At Villanova, Kyle plans to double major in science and communications. and may tryout for the hockey team. After college, Kyle is interested in possibly pursuing a career in scientific research and is especially interested in climate change and ways to help slow it down. He is also looking forward to meeting new people from all over the world and getting to experience life on the east coast while continuing his Augustinian education.

Coming from Darien, Kyle says it wasn’t an easy decision to attend St. Rita but added, “It was the best choice I ever made.”

At St. Rita, James played football and is currently a member of Mustang Track & Field. Outside of school, James has created his own clothing brand, Product of Chicago. Of his success, James says, “I turned all my obstacles and hardships into the motivation to do and be better.” After college, James would love to one day grow his clothing line and/or market for a company like Jordan or Nike so that he can express all of his ideas.
