St. Rita of Cascia High School bestows the “Mustang of the Month” award every month during the academic year to notable students from each class. Faculty and staff nominate students based on the student’s overall achievements and involvement at the school. The award winners are then selected from those nominated by an award committee comprised of members from the Activities Team, Athletic Department, Guidance Office and Dean’s Office. The following students were selected the November 2011 Mustangs of the Month:
Senior – Billy Henry
Billy comes to us from Jerling Junior High and is a member of St. Michael’s Parish. Over the past three years here at St. Rita he has been active in a variety of sports, including baseball and basketball. Billy is a member of the National Honor Society and the Knights of Augustine, where he is the senior leader of the Prayer Commission. He also participates in SADD and the Stock Club During his free time, Billy helps coach grammar school basketball and volunteers at PADS.
When describing his experience at St. Rita, Billy says: “The past three years have been fun. I have met a lot of new people and built strong friendships. St. Rita truly is my home away from home.”
Junior – CJ Klimas
CJ attended Palos South Middle School and is a member of Sacred Heart Parish, where he teaches CCD. While at St. Rita, CJ has been a member of the Football team for all three years. He has been active in the Knights of Augustine and the Spanish Club for two years, and also on the basketball team. CJ has committed on year to working on The Natir.
About his time at St. Rita, CJ says: “These 3 years at Rita have been the best ever. Everyone is so nice here and truly make it my second home. I can’t see myself being anywhere else and I’m excited to see what is coming up in my next year.”
Sophomore – Peter Schaible
Peter hails from Morgan Park Academy and is a parishioner at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, where he is an altar server. He also volunteered with the Dan Ryan Woods clean up. Since he started here at St. Rita over a year ago, Peter has been a member of the Cross Country and Track teams, as well as the Ping Pong and Spanish Clubs
Peter says: “St. Rita has been an amazing experience that has opened my eyes in my faith. Everyone has been so nice. I can’t wait to see what the next few years will bring.”
Freshman – Joe Maloney
Joe comes to St. Rita from St. Catherine’s Parish and Grammar school, where he a member of the teen club. As a freshman, Joe will be joining the track and field program and he enjoys participating in the Open Gym.
According to Joe, “My time at St. Rita has been great. I enjoy waking up to go to school. The students and Staff make me feel at home.”
