St. Rita of Cascia High School presents a notable member of each class with the “Mustang of the Month” award every month during the academic year. Faculty and staff nominate students based on the student’s overall achievements and involvement at St. Rita High School. A committee selects the winners from the nominees. The following students were selected the October 2014 Mustangs of the Month:
David Lorimer – Senior
David is a member of Queen of Martyr’s Parish and a graduate of Queen of Martyrs grammar school. While at St. Rita, David has participated in Knights of Augustine, student government, National Honors Society, volleyball and football. David is the current president of student government. Outside of St. Rita, David has raised thousands of dollars for the Live Like John Foundation and has attended the Student Augustine Values Institute also known as SAVI.
When asked to share what his time at St. Rita has meant to him, David says, “I can’t help but shed a tear when I reminisce about the great times I’ve had at St. Rita. I will miss being a student, but I will never forget that I truly am a Mustang at heart.
Anthony Munzing – Junior
Tony is a member of Our Lady of the Ridge Parish and a graduate of Our Lady of the Ridge grammar school. While at St. Rita, Tony has participated in theatre, improv, lacrosse, football as a student trainer, Knights of Augustine and the Big Brother Program. Outside of St. Rita, Tony is involved with the Quigley Scholar Program, he volunteers his time at PADS shelter and as a 2nd grade religious education teacher. Tony is also involved in the Mother McAuley High School Summer Theatre Program.
When asked to share what his time at St. Rita has meant to him, Tony says, “My time at Rita has been the best years of my life. I have met so many wonderful friends and I have become a part a whole new family that will last a lifetime. I know I can always call this place home.”
Sean Macander – Sophomore
Sean is a member of St. Barnabas Parish and a graduate of St. Barnabas grammar school. While at St. Rita, Sean has participated in student government, Scholastic Bowl, football and baseball. Outside of St. Rita, Sean is very active at his parish and is involved with the Youth Ministry Program at St. Barnabas.
When asked to share what his time at St. Rita has meant to him, Sean says, “St. Rita has been the best time of my life. I have made so many new friends and I have had so many great experiences inside of these walls. I cannot wait to spend the next two and a half years at my brothers.”
Zachary O’Grady – Freshman
Zach is a member of St. Germaine Parish and a graduate of Oak Lawn Hometown Middleschool. While at St. Rita, Zach has participated in golf. He plans to participate in basketball, volleyball and the bass fishing club throughout the year. Outside of St. Rita, Zach is participates in Merrionette Park Baseball, George Shimko Basketball School (GSBS) and he caddies at Beverly Country Club.
When asked to share what his time at St. Rita has meant to him, Zach says, “St. Rita is truly my second home. There isn’t a day I am not excited to come to school. I really enjoy all of my classes. I am looking forward to making the best out of the next three years here.”
The Mustangs of the Month awards were presented on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at a ceremony following an all-school Mass at St. Rita’s Shrine Chapel, located on St. Rita High School’s beautiful 37-acre Western Avenue Campus.
