Special Announcement from St. Rita

Dear Prospective Students and Parents: It is with great enthusiasm that St. Rita of Cascia High School announces that in the fall of 2014 all entering St. Rita freshmen (of the Class of 2018) will be required to have an iPad to use in their classes.   As we have seen in our pilot program and in schools across the country, increased integration of this tool into our curriculum will offer exciting opportunities for creativity in teaching and learning, student initiative and leadership, presentations, streamlined communication, organization and innovative assignments and tests. We are thrilled with the outcomes we have seen so far in our iPad Pilot Program and look forward to expanding that effort.

Looking ahead to 2014-15, freshman teachers will be required to replace the current traditional textbooks with electronic texts and/or primary and secondary materials available on the internet, and members of the Class of 2018 will be required to purchase an iPad.  Our recommendations are either the 32 gb iPad Air or the 32 gb iPad Retina Mini.

Plans for 2015-16 and beyond will be finalized by December, 2014, but our current expectation is that students in all remaining grades will be required to have an iPad in class by the start of the 2015-16 school year.

We believe that the value for teaching and learning using the iPad will be an asset to the good things that are happening in the classroom at St. Rita.  The cost savings on books in the freshman year will substantially offset the initial cost of the iPad, and our estimates show that over the course of a four year career at St. Rita the net textbook savings could double the upfront cost of the device.

As always, families who have demonstrated financial need in meeting their tuition and school-related expenses will be able to apply for tuition assistance.

More detail will be shared on our website in the near future, but if you have general questions about the iPad initiative, please direct them to Brendan Conroy, Principal, at [email protected] or extension 6615.  For technical questions, please contact Paul Harrington, Director of Technology, at [email protected] or extension 6675.

Thank you for your time & Merry Christmas to you and your family!
