On Tuesday, February 25th, St. Rita of Cascia High School held a kick off rally in support of their annual St. Baldrick's Day Shaving Event. For the past 8 years, St. Rita has support the efforts of St. Baldrick's. It is our hope that this year, we will reach our highest donations ever. According to Fr. Tom McCarthy, O.S.A., Jimmy Drenovsky (Student Government President) and Mrs. Jodi McLawhorn (Activities Director), the school has a goal of $15,000 to raise by the shave day, which is March 17th. It is our hope to not only achieve that goal, but to excede it.
The kick off rally presented this year's honoree, St. Rita senior, Chris Martinez. Chris was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma almost one year ago. He has overcome the odds and stands today as a living example of the positive things our donation money does for Children's Cancer Research. Chris spoke to the entire student body regarding his cancer and how important it is to get involved in St. Baldrick's.
The theme for this year's St. Baldrick's to to emphasize that cancer is survivable with proper treatment and research. This year we honor the survivors, who are here today because of the money that has been raised for this cause. Chris is our testament to that.
The St. Rita family welcomes everyone to sign up for our event on Monday, March 17th. Go to: www.stbaldricks.org/events/
