St. Rita's Tony Zych Promoted by Cubs

After an impressive start at Daytona in A ball, Tony Zych of Monee, IL (St. Rita High School) was promoted by the Cubs to AA Tennessee on June 29.

Zych, one of the top 20 prospects in the Cubs minor league system, signed with the Cubs in 2011. Zych was originally drafted by the Cubs after high school at St. Rita, but chose to go Louisville. With the Cardinals, Zych proved to be an excellent closer.

The Cubs then drafted Zych again in 2011. The Monee resident went in the fourth round. Working to improve his slider to go with his 90 mph fastball, Zych is hoping to toil at Wrigley Field in the near future.

In 27 relief appearances, Zych was 3-3 with six saves. He struck out 36 batters in 36.2 innings with just seven walks. Zych had a 3.19 earned run average.
