Saturday, February 9, St. Rita High School held its 24th-annual Valentine Dinner Dance at the beautiful Ritz-Carlton Chicago Grand Ballroom downtown. This year’s dance, like its previous 23 before it, was a complete and total success.
The Valentine Dinner Dance is St. Rita’s major fundraiser each year, and deep thanks go out to Mr. Steve Schaller, Chairman of the Dinner Dance, Mike Zunica, Dinner Dance Committee member and St. Rita Athletic Director, and the dozens of other event committee members who volunteered their time and efforts. Also, the St. Rita Office of Institutional Advancement and St. Rita Administration
Office played integral roles in the planning and coordination as well.
One of the highlights each year at the Valentine Dinner Dance is the amazing collection of silent and live auction items. The 450+ guests bid on everything from sports memorabilia and game tickets, to autographed pictures and instruments, to hotel and vacation packages. Among the unique and coveted items were Justin Bieber skybox tickets at the United Center, eight tickets to see the Chicago Bears take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, Cubs and White Sox skybox tickets, lunch with former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, and a Sanibel Island Condo Resort Trip. As you can see, there was something for everyone at the Ritz-Carlton! The great meal and drink items also keep the Valentine Dinner Dance as the hot-ticket item for the St. Rita Family.
But there’s more than just prizes and food. We honored the Valentine Couple of the Year, Mike ’72 and Mary Georgopulos, handed out the Tolle Lege Community Service Award to Ron Skwarek ’70, and presented the Crest of St. Augustine to Bill Doyle ’41. All three men and their families have been life-long supporters of St. Rita and its Augustinian mission of truth, unity, and love. Their awards were well-deserved as they have remained true examples of what a Ritaman entails. We thank them for their support of our wonderful school family.
The Valentine Dinner Dance is an event that captures the spirit and heart of St. Rita High School. We would simply not be as strong in academics, athletics, and spirituality without the support of our alumni, benefactors, and friends. Thank you to all!
