2026 St. Rita Hall of Fame Inductee: Mike Georgopulos ‘72

We are honored to induct Mike Georgopulos ‘72 into the St. Rita Hall of Fame at our 89th Annual Alumni Banquet & Hall of Fame Dinner.

Mike grew up on 63rd & Washtenaw and attended St. Rita grammar school. There was never a question he would attend St. Rita, as he was just down the street from 63rd & Claremont.

On the football field, Mike was a part of an undefeated freshman football team and became the long snapper his sophomore year. In addition to long snapping, Mike played guard during his junior and senior years. He played on a team that won 22 games in a row and was voted the number three team in the nation his senior year.

Football was not Mike’s only contribution to St. Rita. He served as a Knight of Augustine and volunteered at Misericordia with Br. Jerome Sysko, O.S.A. In his senior year, Mike was elected as President of the Student Council.

Upon graduating from St. Rita, Mike attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a degree in finance. His first year out of school, he went to the Chicago Board of Trade and landed a job as a runner. Mike fell in love with trading action on the floor and also with his wife, Mary, of 47 years. He learned the business from the ground up by becoming a cash grain trader on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. Mike and Mary had 3 children in Minneapolis before moving back to Chicago where they added two more children to the family. He rented a seat on the Chicago Board of Trade, which he eventually bought in 1988. Mike was the chairman of the Floor Conduct Committee and after a very successful career as an independent trader, he retired in 2005.

After retirement, he volunteered at The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland, becoming the CFO on their Board of Directors. Mike also served on the Board of Advisors of the Newman Center at the University of Illinois. He joined the Board of St. Rita in the early 2000s and continued to serve until 2008.

In 2012, Mike and Mary moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina, where his daughters and several grandchildren later joined them. Mike continues to serve as CFO of the Pregnancy Center and Clinic of the Low Country, helping expand its reach by opening new centers and relocating its headquarters.

Join us in celebrating Mike, along with our renowned Hall of Fame inductees and anniversary classes, at our 89th Annual Alumni Banquet & Hall of Fame Dinner on Friday, April 17! You must purchase your tickets before Monday, April 13. Buy your tickets here!
