St. Rita of Cascia High School Welcomes Bill Heaney ‘05 as Director of Admissions

CHICAGO —Deacon John Donahue, J.D., Ed.D., President of St. Rita of Cascia High School, announced Bill Heaney ‘05 has been appointed Director of Admissions.

Heaney, who served as Director of Alumni Relations at St. Rita from 2010 to 2014, returns to his alma mater from Mount Carmel High School where he served as both a School Counselor and Director of Baseball Marketing.

In his new role, Heaney will take the lead in ensuring the continued growth of St. Rita’s enrollment.

“We are proud to welcome Bill back to his St. Rita home —this time in a new capacity,” Deacon John said. “His background in alumni relations and marketing in addition to his vast experience mentoring young students and athletes make him uniquely qualified for this leadership role.”

Heaney brings with him over 13 years of experience in roles both private and public education. Following his roles in the Institutional Advancement Office at St. Rita, Heaney shifted his focus to school counseling and joined the counseling team at Chicago Public School James Shields Elementary in 2015. Then in 2019, he joined the Counseling department at Mount Carmel High School in 2019, where he oversaw a substantial caseload and supported students through social/emotional, academic, and college career counseling. While at Mt. Carmel, he also assisted in launching the Junior Leadership Program.

Heaney has also coached at various institutions. He has been at the helm of teams at the high school level since 2010, beginning his career at St. Rita as Head Sophomore Baseball Coach (2010-2014), Junior Varsity Baseball Coach at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School (2016-2018), and Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Mount Carmel High School (2019-2023). He has served as a Head Coach at Top Tier Baseball from 2013 to 2021.

“I am excited to take on the role as Director of Admissions because I know how special the St. Rita community is and will continue to be,” Heaney shared. “I am honored to lead the team that will ensure that St. Rita continues to grow. The admissions office is a critical part of making sure that the school we all love is headed in the right direction – I’m eager to build on the momentum created by John Bonk ‘75.”

Heaney earned his Bachelor of Art in Business Administration from Benedictine University and his Master of Arts in School Counseling from Chicago State University.

A native of the Palos Heights, Heaney attended St. Alexander School before he walked the halls on 77th and Western as a Ritaman. He currently lives in Beverly with his wife, Caitlin, and sons, Shea and Finn, where they are members of Christ the King Parish.
